The Jacksonville Expos began play in the Southern League in 1984 after a new owner purchased the Jacksonville Suns and the club became a Montreal Expos affiliate. The team played at Sam Wolfson Baseball Park. Some of the team's notable players during this era included Randy Johnson, Larry Walker, Andres Galarraga, Marquis Grissom, Delino DeShields, and John Vander Wal. In 1991, the team became a farm club of the Seattle Mariners and became known as the Jacksonville Suns once again.
